Venus retrograde 2026 started on 3 October, and if your love life, your money or your taste in people has felt strangely nostalgic since, I don’t think you’re imagining it. I read a lot of charts, and this is the retrograde I’ve had the most messages about this year. So here are the real dates, worked out properly rather than copied from a calendar app, what the sky is doing around Venus while it’s backing up, and the placements that will feel it most. If you know your chart, you can find yourself in here in about two minutes.

What Venus retrograde actually is

Venus is the planet of love, attraction, pleasure and money, the things we value and the people we’re drawn to. Retrograde means a planet looks as if it’s moving backwards through the zodiac. The look comes from Earth and Venus passing each other on their orbits, the same way a car you overtake on the motorway seems to slide backwards for a moment. Venus does it about once every nineteen months, for roughly six weeks, so each one gets noticed.

What it tends to feel like is a review. Old feelings come back up for another look. Someone from the past turns up in your messages. A purchase you were sure about suddenly isn’t. The idea is that Venus walks back over ground it has already covered, and asks you to do the same with whatever it touched.

Venus retrograde 2026 dates

Here’s the whole thing, start to finish. Times are in UT; if you’re in the Americas, the direct station lands on the evening of 13 November for you.

The shadow is the stretch of the zodiac Venus crosses three times: once on the way in, once backwards, and once more on the way out. Plenty of people feel a retrograde start in the shadow, which is why late August and early September may already have brought up the subject you’re now going round in circles about.

What else is happening while Venus is retrograde

A retrograde on its own is a mood. What gives this one its plot is what Venus runs into on the way back.

Venus squares Pluto three times

This is the big one. A square is an aspect of ninety degrees, the one that feels like friction, and Pluto is the planet of power, control and the things we keep hidden. Venus squares Pluto at about 3° Scorpio and 3° Aquarius on 15 September, again on 20 October while retrograde, and a third time on 9 December after it’s turned direct. Three passes over one degree is how the sky underlines something. The theme is who holds the power in love and money: jealousy, intensity, the relationship where one person always seems to be keeping score.

Three passes over one degree is how the sky underlines something.

Mercury, then Mars

On 7 October Venus meets Mercury, the planet of talking and messages, at 8° Scorpio, right where the retrograde began. It’s the conversation you’ve been putting off. Three days later, on 10 October, Venus squares Mars at 7° Scorpio and 7° Leo, and Mars is drive and temper, so that conversation might not stay polite.

The middle: Venus meets the Sun

On 24 October Venus passes between Earth and the Sun at 0°45′ Scorpio. Astrologers treat this as the heart of the retrograde, the moment Venus is reborn in the cycle and the old chapter properly closes. The next day she backs into Libra, and the questions move from who has power over whom to what’s fair.

Mercury retrograde joins in

Mercury turns retrograde itself from 24 October to 13 November, also in Scorpio, so for about three weeks both planets are backing up at once. Messages land wrong, plans get reshuffled, and the ex texts at an hour no reasonable person texts. I’ve written up every Mercury retrograde date for 2026 and 2027 if you want the full picture.

The kinder aspects

There’s some kindness in it too. Venus sextiles Jupiter, the planet of growth and generosity, at about 24° Libra and Leo on 4 November, and again on 28 November. A sextile is a soft, helpful aspect of sixty degrees, and these are the days when someone is unexpectedly kind about the thing you were bracing for.

Who feels Venus retrograde 2026 most

Everyone has Venus somewhere, so everyone gets something. These placements get the most. You’ll need your chart for the degrees; Spisce works them out from your birth date, time and place.

Venus in Libra or Scorpio at birth

If you were born with Venus between 22° Libra and 8° Scorpio, retrograde Venus is walking back and forth over your own Venus, three times, which is a bit like having your love life audited by someone who used to be you. Old patterns in how you choose people and spend money come up, and it’s a genuinely good time to ask whether what you’re drawn to still suits who you are now. Venus anywhere else in these two signs feels it too, just more gently.

Your Sun, Moon or rising between 22° Libra and 8° Scorpio

This is the stretch of the zodiac the retrograde covers, so anything of yours inside it gets visited more than once. With the Sun there, it’s about being seen and valued for who you are. With the Moon, it’s what makes you feel safe, so expect feelings about home and closeness. With the rising sign there, it’s visible: people from the past recognise you, and you might find yourself wanting to change how you look. The old advice is to wait until Venus is direct before the drastic haircut, and I’d mostly agree with it.

Taurus Suns and risings

Venus rules Taurus, so if you’re a Taurus Sun or Taurus rising, the planet in charge of your chart is the one going backwards. Taurus also sits opposite Scorpio, so if you have planets at 0° to 8° Taurus, Venus spends mid-September to late October directly across from them, and comes back to them in December. For you this is mostly about worth: what you’re paid, what you put up with, and whether the comfort you’ve built is still comfortable.

Libra Suns and risings

Venus rules Libra too, and from 25 October she’s retrograde in your own sign. Libras are good at keeping the peace, and this retrograde is good at showing you what the peace has been costing. If you’ve been agreeable about something you actually mind, it will come up between late October and mid-November, and saying so is allowed.

Planets at 1° to 6° of Taurus, Leo, Scorpio or Aquarius

These are the fixed signs, the ones that hold on, and the triple Venus–Pluto square sits right at 3° of them. If you have the Sun, Moon, Venus, Mars or your rising sign in this narrow band, you’re in the middle of the tug-of-war. At 3° Taurus or Leo, one of the pair sits opposite you and the other square; at 3° Scorpio or Aquarius, you’re sitting right on one of them. It tends to show up as a relationship or a money arrangement where someone is quietly in control, and the three dates, 15 September, 20 October and 9 December, read like three chapters of the same story. Pluto has been sitting on this degree all year, and I’ve written about what Pluto in Aquarius means more widely.

Late Aries, Cancer and Capricorn

Once Venus is back in late Libra, from 25 October onwards, she’s opposite anything you have at 22° to 30° of Aries and square anything at the same degrees of Cancer or Capricorn. Aries placements feel it in partnerships, the person across from you. Cancer placements feel it at home and with family. Capricorn placements feel it at work and in their reputation, usually as a question of whether the job still pays them in anything they care about.

Aries rising and Taurus rising

Houses are the twelve areas of life your chart is divided into, and the 7th is partnership. If you’re Aries rising, Libra sits on your 7th house; if you’re Taurus rising, Scorpio does. Either way this retrograde happens right in your relationship house, so it’s the most literal version of all this: a partner, an ex, or a business partner, and the terms you have with them. If you’re not sure what your rising sign is, I’ve written about what your rising sign means and how to find it.

What to do with Venus retrograde

The useful version of a retrograde is the review. Go back over the relationship, the budget, the thing you said yes to in August, and ask whether you still want it. Reconnecting is easier now than starting from scratch, so it’s a good time for the friend you lost touch with or the project you shelved. Rereading old messages will tell you more than you expect, though I wouldn’t act on all of it the same evening.

What I’d hold off on is the big, fast commitment made in the double retrograde, between 24 October and 13 November. Nothing forbids it. You’ll simply see it more clearly after Venus turns direct, and the shadow gives you until mid-December to make the move with your eyes open. If an ex turns up, it’s worth asking what you learnt the first time before you answer, which is the whole point of a retrograde anyway.

And after 13 November, when Venus turns direct at 22° Libra, things start to move forward again, slowly at first. By the time she’s back in Scorpio on 4 December, most people know what they’re keeping. So what has come back to you since the start of October?

Questions people ask

When is Venus retrograde in 2026?

Venus turns retrograde on 3 October 2026 at 8°29′ Scorpio and turns direct on 14 November 2026 at 00:27 UT, which is the evening of 13 November in the Americas, at 22°52′ Libra.

Is Venus retrograde 2026 in Scorpio or Libra?

Both. It starts in Scorpio, slips back into Libra on 25 October, turns direct in Libra, and returns to Scorpio on 4 December 2026.

Which signs are most affected by Venus retrograde 2026?

Anyone with Venus, the Sun, the Moon or the rising sign between 22° Libra and 8° Scorpio, Taurus and Libra placements because Venus rules both, and anyone with planets at 1° to 6° of Taurus, Leo, Scorpio or Aquarius, which the three Venus–Pluto squares hit.

When does the Venus retrograde shadow end?

The shadow began on 31 August 2026, when Venus first crossed the degree it will turn direct on, and it ends on 15 December 2026, when Venus clears 8°29′ Scorpio, the degree it turned retrograde on.

Do exes come back during Venus retrograde?

They often seem to, because a retrograde is a time for going back over things. Whether a return means anything is yours to judge, and the clearer read usually comes after Venus turns direct.

Is Venus retrograde bad for starting a relationship?

Nothing forbids it. It is a better time for looking honestly at what you want than for big commitments made in a rush, so if something starts now, give it until after mid-November before deciding what it is.
